if I had a dollar for every thing in my life that was improved by the suggestion to “hold it like a pencil,” I’d have… two dollars.

Actually, it was her suggestion that I post the tip, though she also suggested (as did my sister) that I include a photograph… but when I saw how she was holding the whisk, I told her to hold it like a pencil instead, and she said that she could feel the difference in technique immediately!

I probably should have made the transformation bit of the story more clear in the original text, but it was an instantaneous improvement from awkwardness to proficiency based on a five word suggestion: “hold it like a pencil.” I’ve revised the entry to indicate that I helped my wife by offering the suggestion and that she (amazingly enough) found my advice useful.

I think a demonstrating photo would be useful here. Perhaps your lovely wife’s hold vs. yours?
