You may like http://www.waffleizer.com/. Also we have the cheapo belgian waffle maker from Penny's and it works ok, was less than $20. Indicator light is totally just for show but you get used to when you're supposed to pop 'em out.

We have a Villaware Model 2001 C Uno Classic Waffler 4-SQ that we bought several years ago. My main complaint is that if it isn't filled exactly perfectly (neither too much nor too little), the front corners don't get baked. Unfortunately, the perfect amount of batter in the waffle iron has only happened once no matter how hard I try. My other complaint is the annoying chirping noise it makes every time it gets up to temperature. If you cut off the front corners and ignore the noise, it makes great waffles.

I've gone 6 years without a waffle iron. My sister gave me the above mentioned cuisnart model, and we've had waffles at least once a week since. Very pleased with it...I like them crispier so I usually ignore the green light and let it cook for another minute. That's a personal preference though.

I have this one, a traditional-style Cuisinart with temp control:

http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-WAF-R-Traditional-Waffle-Iron/dp/B0006L9V12

It is easy to use and a snap to clean. I make yeast-raised, cornmeal, and chocolate waffles (including various sweet and savory fillings) with nary a concern about sticking or burning.

We got the Calphalon HE400WM belgian waffle maker as a wedding gift, and after using it once, immediately turned into the waffleizer people. They brown evenly, and I'm pretty sure that even a waffle made of tar wouldn't stick to it. (So, yes; it cleans up easily.)

Downsides: it's kind of heavy, but that's only a problem because we have it stored on a high shelf. Even though it's a belgian waffle maker, it's not super deep; it's sort of middle-ground between regular waffle and a belgian waffle.

With the caveats that a) I've no direct experience with the fellow, and b) the waffle makers are on the pricey side, this may be of some interest:
