Peanut Butter &…

I don’t have time or energy to make myself gourmet lunches every day. Sometimes, I eat peanut butter sandwiches. Though they’re about the simplest creation around, they’re also quite yummy—especially if you use natural peanut butter (ingredients: peanuts, salt).

Everybody eats peanut butter & jelly, honey, or banana, but limiting your scope of pb & sandwiches to that (albeit classic) trio seems a rather dim horizon for such a versatile ingredient. Other fairly obvious sandwiches I’ll occasionally snack on are pb & marshmallow (often in the fluff variety… one of my few exceptions to a distaste for processed foods) and pb & nutella, which is especially good on toast.

Less obvious (but still quite tasty) are pb & dill pickle and pb & bacon, both of which my wife refuses to sample even though I tell her every time I eat one how good it is. Still, I have a suspicion that even with these two non-canonical inclusions in my peanut butter sandwich repertoire, I’m still only at the tip of the iceberg. Please let me know what your favorite non-traditional peanut butter sandwiches are—I’d really like to expand my menu of quick & easy lunchtime possibilities!

I’m a fan of PB, honey, and oats, myself. I’m intrigued by the PB & bacon idea, but I can never manage to cook bacon right…

My repertoire is limited to jelly & banana, but I was thinking about it, and I think that stewed apples would be a tasty addition. Kinda like peanut butter & apple butter, but with some substance to it. I suppose I could make some on the weekend and keep it in the fridge for a quick sandwich treat.

How about something spicy? Peanut butter sandwich with a squirt of sriracha? Maybe put the sort of things you’d put on a hummus sandwich in there. Bean sprouts… cucumber… hmm, I don’t know whether this would be any good or not. I should try it out.

When I was a kid, I liked peanut butter, pepperoni, and pickles.

I must have had a thing for salt.

Peanut butter, jelly, and Doritos (cheese, not ranch)

speaking of iceberg, a favorite in the karinajean ancestral home is a piece of lettuce with peanut butter smeared on it rolled up into a tasty peanut-buttery iceberg cigar.

OK, here goes: Peanut butter and thinly sliced onions. Go ahead, laugh if you want, but try it. Also, a bit more involved, but try peanut butter on your hamburger. It is a local specialty here in Missouri (guess that just solidifies the perception, doesn’t it?)

    Peanut butter and something green.
    Romaine… sprouts… sugar snap peas.

My grandmother’s fav. was PB, mayo and lettuce.

    So tasty, yet so reviled.

My dad always liked peanut butter on meat loaf but I never tried it.

Well, we used to have what my Grandma called “goup” which was pb mixed with maple syrup, it was always on toast but I imagine you could do it in sandwhich form. Also I love to dip celery and apples in pb so I bet it would be yummy to put little chunks of those on there. I also had a friend who would mix the pb and jelly in a bowl, and then stir in raisins. Never tried it as it just seems unnatural to MIX the two together. But I was always a kid whose food couldn’t touch on her plate.

I always add mini pretzels to the inside of the sandwich for a salty crunch!

While I’ve never made this in sandwich form, one of my fondest food memories of the picnics my grandparents would take me on is dipping potato chips in PB. Very yummy!

PB on left-over pizza. Cook the pizza while scorching the peanut butter in the toaster oven (You must monitor while cooking as the peanut butter can and sometimes does catch fire). I suspect that having bacon on the pizza would only make it better. Also, you must take great care not to burn yourself on the hot peanut butter.

Aurora’s grandfather Raab always tried to get us to try peanut butter and onion sandwiches. I never took the “bait”….left that to the siblings. Our neighbor growing up would just do peanut butter and butter. A friend I used to work with brought PB and cream cheese. My preference is the PB and Apple butter…..can’t beat it. Enjoy!!

I’ve got a lot of foods that I want to tell you about that I’ve tried/thought of trying this week. I swear it was the mushrooms, they make me think of you every time.

On the subject of peanut butter… Peanut butter and jelly on left-over waffles w/banana and strawberry slices, as a sandwich. The waffle ‘pockets’ hold the filling nicely, and everyone is puzzled by “what the heck” you are eatting. Whole grain nut waffles are excellent.

Also, think Asian peanut sauce flavors. If you concoct anything good, let me know.

peanut butter and a thick slice of tomatoe with a dash of sea salt!

I LOVE PB and lettuce sandwiches. Absolutely Delicious, but I do it in private….Don’t really want people to know my secret. They may steal it.

My absolute favorite and i probably have it at least once a week(I was eating one while i Google’d this Blog) is a Peanut butter and jam and marble cheddar cheese sandwich. but for the best experience, you should try it on a toasted English Muffin! be sure to melt some butter on that one!

or the Elvis Classic is good, but only once a year. Peanut butter and Banana pan fried in LOTS of butter.

Damn I love Peanut butter. PB in a coconut and chicken Curry (thai) mmmm. PB and Cucumbers and Vinegar on toast! mmmm Peanut Butter warmed up a bit in the microwave, and then poured on Icecream. mmmm

There are a few ideas above that i’d be willing to try.
